Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Completed his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1992 from NIT Rourkela. Immediately thereafter, he joined as a Lecturer at University College of Engineering (currently VSSUT), Burla, Odisha in 1992, until moving back to NIT (formerly REC) Rourkela to pursue his Ph.D in 1996. He earned his doctoral degree in 2000 and was subsequently promoted to ‘Reader’ at VSSUT, Burla in 2001. He joined as an Assistant Professor, in 2003, at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, where he became a Professor in 2012 and Professor (HAG) in 2018. An acclaimed researcher and effective administrator, Prof Mishra has carved a niche for himself in the field of Electrical Engineering. His research expertise lies in fields of Power Systems, Power Quality Studies, Renewable Energy, Smart Grid, Microgrid and Smart EV charger. As part of his administrative role, he has served as the founding Dean, Research and External Engagement, IIT Delhi- Abu Dhabi Campus and as Associate Dean (R&D) at IIT Delhi. He has taken over the charge of the Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad with effect from 15th May 2024. With a rich industrial experience, Prof Mishra has won many accolades such as Young Scientist Award, 1999 by Orissa Bigyan Academy; INSA Medal for Young Scientist, 2002; INAE Young Engineer Award, 2002; INAE Silver Jubilee Young Engineer Award, 2012; The Samanta Chandra Shekhar Award, 2016; Bimal Bose Award, 2019; NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award, 2019; National Mission Innovation Championship Award, 2019; INAE Outstanding Teachers Award, 2021; Innovation Leadership Award, 2023; Prof. K.L. Chopra Applied Research Award, 2023; among others. He has been granted fellowship of various professional bodies, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA, 2025; National Academy of Science, India, (NASI), 2014; Indian National Academy of Engineering, New Delhi (INAE), 2009; Institution of Engineering and Technology, London, UK (IET), 2011; Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), 2006 and The Institution of Engineers, India, 2016. He has been conferred with INAE-SERB, DST Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, India, 2023.
